I wrote a guest post for the fabulous Gay YA website, discussing the importance of stories that deal with issues and themes beyond the process of coming out in LGBTQ young adult fiction.

My upcoming novel, Here’s the Thing is about sixteen-year-old Zel, who returns to Australia after nearly a year in New York. And when she moves she’s forced to leave her best friend, Prim, behind. This is extra devastating for Zel because for almost the entire time they’ve been friends, Zel has been harbouring a mammoth, unrequited crush on her.
I did a guest post for Up Close and Literal on whether LGBT counts as a genre, where I tell a story about one of my readers that reflects why I think we still need this label for LGBTQ books—especially in young adult fiction.
